ASTM A653 galvanized steel coil is hot-dip zinc coated steel sheet manufactured in accordance with the American standard ASTM A653/A653M. It is the most widely specified galvanized steel standard in the North American market, covering both pure zinc coatings (GI) and zinc-iron alloy coatings (galvannealed, GA).

4. GI and Galvannealed Options

Pure zinc (GI) coatings deliver excellent corrosion protection and are ideal for building products. Galvannealed (GA) coatings, produced by heat-treating the zinc layer, provide superior paint adhesion and weldability, making them the preferred choice for automotive body parts and appliance panels.

5. Excellent Formability by Grade

From CS for general bending to EDDS for the most severe deep drawing, each grade offers predictable forming behavior. Zero spangle and minimized spangle finishes are available where surface smoothness is required after forming and painting.

Q1. What is ASTM A653 galvanized steel coil?

ASTM A653 is the American standard for hot-dip zinc coated steel sheet, covering both pure zinc (GI) and zinc-iron alloy (galvannealed) coatings. ASTM A653 galvanized steel coil is the most widely specified galvanized product in the North American market.

Q2. What is the difference between CS, DS and SS grades?

CS (Commercial Steel) is for general bending and moderate forming. DS (Drawing Steel) and DDS (Deep Drawing Steel) offer progressively better formability for deep drawing operations. SS (Structural Steel) grades, such as SS Grade 40 and 50, are certified to minimum yield strengths for load-bearing applications.

Q3. What do G30, G60 and G90 coating designations mean?

The letter G indicates a zinc coating measured in ounces per square foot of total coating on both sides. G30 is a light coating, G60 is a medium coating, and G90 is a heavy coating widely used for exterior building products. Metric equivalents use the Z designation, such as Z275 for G90.

Q4. What is the difference between GI and galvannealed (GA)?

GI has a pure zinc coating that provides excellent corrosion protection through sacrificial action. Galvannealed (GA) is formed by heat-treating the zinc coating into a zinc-iron alloy, offering better paint adhesion, weldability and surface hardness, at the cost of slightly lower corrosion resistance.

Q5. What is your MOQ and delivery time?

Our MOQ is one 20' container (about 25 tons), and trial orders are accepted for samples. Standard production lead time is 7–15 days after deposit, depending on specification and quantity. We ship from Tianjin Port, China, and can arrange FOB, CIF, CFR and DDP terms.

Q6. Can you provide customized sizes and processing?

Yes. We offer slitting, cut-to-length, edge trimming, oiling and custom packaging. You can specify thickness, width, coating designation, steel grade, inner diameter and coil weight according to your production needs.

Every order includes a Mill Test Certificate confirming ASTM A653 compliance, coating weight, chemical composition and mechanical properties. Third-party inspection such as SGS, BV and TUV is available upon request.
