Hot dipped galvanized steel coil, also known as GI coil, is cold rolled strip coated with a layer of zinc through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line. The zinc coating provides outstanding corrosion protection, extending the service life of the steel by several decades in most environments.

At JGT Group, we supply hot dipped galvanized steel coil in thicknesses from 0.15mm to 6.0mm and widths from 600mm to 2000mm. Common grades include DX51D, DX52D, DX53D, SGCC and CS Type A/B, manufactured in accordance with EN 10346, ASTM A653, JIS G3302 and GB/T 2518 standards.

Coating weights from Z40 to Z275 g/m² are available, with regular spangle, zero spangle and minimized spangle surface finishes. Coils can be chromated, oiled and skin passed to suit downstream forming, painting and storage requirements.

1. Outstanding Corrosion Resistance

The zinc coating acts as a sacrificial anode that protects the steel even at cut edges, scratches and bare spots. This cathodic protection makes hot dipped galvanized steel coil far more corrosion-resistant than painted or bare steel, especially in humid, coastal and industrial environments.

Coils are available in regular spangle, zero spangle and minimized spangle finishes, with optional chromating and oiling. Zero spangle surfaces are preferred for painted products and appliance panels, while regular spangle suits general building applications.

Q1. What is hot dipped galvanized steel coil?

Hot dipped galvanized steel coil, or GI coil, is cold rolled steel strip coated with molten zinc in a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line. The zinc layer protects the steel from corrosion and can be tailored in weight from Z40 to Z275 g/m² to suit different environments.

Q2. What does the coating weight Z275 mean?

The letter Z refers to zinc coating, and the number indicates the coating weight in g/m² on both sides combined. Z275 means 275 g/m² total, which is a heavy coating recommended for outdoor applications such as roofing and agricultural structures. Light coatings like Z40 suit indoor, low-corrosion uses.

Q3. What is the difference between galvanized (GI) and galvalume (GL) coil?

GI coil has a pure zinc coating, offering excellent corrosion protection and galvanic action, and is easier to weld and paint. GL coil uses a zinc-aluminum coating (about 55% aluminum) that provides better heat reflection and longer life in some atmospheric conditions, but is less formable at sharp bends.

Q4. What grades and standards do you supply?

We supply grades including DX51D, DX52D, DX53D, SGCC, SGCD and CS Type A/B, manufactured according to EN 10346, ASTM A653, JIS G3302 and GB/T 2518 standards. Equivalent grades can be supplied upon request.

Q5. What is your MOQ and delivery time?

Our MOQ is one 20' container (about 25 tons), and trial orders are accepted for samples. Standard production lead time is 7–15 days after deposit, depending on specification and quantity. We ship from Tianjin Port, China, and can arrange FOB, CIF, CFR and DDP terms.

Q6. Can you provide customized sizes and processing?

Yes. We offer slitting, cut-to-length, edge trimming, oiling and custom packaging. You can specify thickness, width, coating weight, inner diameter and coil weight according to your production needs.

Q7. Do you provide quality certificates?

Every order includes a Mill Test Certificate covering coating weight, chemical composition and mechanical properties. Third-party inspection such as SGS, BV and TUV is available upon request.
