Product Description
High carbon steel coil is a premium steel product with a carbon content ranging from 0.60% to 1.00%. It offers the highest strength, hardness and wear resistance among plain carbon steels, making it essential for components exposed to extreme stress, friction and repeated loading.
At JGT Group, we produce high carbon steel coil through hot rolling and cold rolling processes, with thicknesses from 0.10mm to 6.0mm (cold rolled) and 2.0mm to 12mm (hot rolled), and widths from 600mm to 2000mm. Common grades include 65Mn, 70#, 80#, SK5, SAE1070 and SAE1080, manufactured in accordance with GB/T 699, ASTM A684/A682, EN 10132 and JIS G4801 standards.
For applications requiring formability despite high hardness, coils can be supplied in the spheroidized annealed condition, which softens the steel for stamping, blanking and cold forming before final heat treatment. Bright annealed and pickled & oiled surface finishes are available on request.
With an annual output of 200,000 tons, JGT Group is a trusted high carbon steel coil manufacturer and supplier serving customers in more than 100 countries. Every shipment includes a mill test certificate, and customized dimensions, slitting and packaging are fully supported to match your exact requirements.
Main Features
1. Exceptional Hardness & Strength
With a carbon content of 0.60%–1.00%, high carbon steel coil offers the highest hardness and tensile strength among plain carbon steels. After quenching and tempering, hardness can reach HRC 55–65, making it the material of choice for components that must resist wear, deformation and heavy stress.
2. Superior Wear & Fatigue Resistance
The high carbon content provides outstanding resistance to surface wear, abrasion and repeated loading. High carbon steel coil is widely used for parts subjected to continuous friction and cyclic stress, where lower carbon grades would fail prematurely.
3. Excellent Spring & Edge Retention
High carbon steel retains its elastic limit and sharp edge under load, making it the preferred substrate for coil springs, leaf springs, saw blades and cutting tools. The steel can be hardened to hold a keen cutting edge while maintaining sufficient toughness for practical service.
4. Spheroidized Annealing Option
For applications that require cold forming, our high carbon steel coil can be supplied in the spheroidized annealed condition. This heat treatment softens the steel for stamping, blanking and deep drawing, allowing complex parts to be formed before final hardening.
5. Consistent Dimensional Accuracy
Every coil is produced with precise control of thickness, width and flatness. Our advanced rolling mills and online gauge control systems ensure uniform strip thickness across the entire coil length, reducing material waste and ensuring stable performance in high-volume production lines.
6. Factory-Direct Competitive Pricing
As a high carbon steel coil manufacturer, JGT Group supplies directly from our factory in Tianjin, China, eliminating middlemen and offering highly competitive prices without compromising quality. Our stable production capacity of 200,000 tons per year ensures reliable, on-time delivery for large-scale and long-term projects.
Applications
High carbon steel coil is specified where maximum hardness, strength and wear resistance are required:
🔩 Springs
The leading application: automotive suspension springs, valve springs, spring leaves, clock springs and spring washers, where high elastic limit and fatigue resistance are essential.
🔪 Cutting Tools & Blades
Saw blades, knives, scraper blades, razor blades and industrial cutting edges rely on the hardening capacity of high carbon steel to hold a sharp, durable edge.
🪢 Wire & Cables
High carbon wire rod and strip are drawn into spring wire, steel cord, rope wire and tire bead wire for demanding reinforcement applications.
🚗 Automotive & Machinery Parts
Transmission components, clutch discs, cutting blades and high-strength stamped parts that must withstand extreme stress and wear.
🔧 Hardware & Small Parts
Springs, clips, fasteners, needle blades and precision small parts produced from cold rolled high carbon strip with tight tolerances.
📦 Other Applications
Combs, card clothing, shims, hand tools and general engineering parts. Our engineering team can recommend the most suitable grade and heat treatment for your project.
FAQ
Q1. What is high carbon steel coil?
High carbon steel coil is a steel product with a carbon content between 0.60% and 1.00%. It offers the highest hardness, strength and wear resistance among plain carbon steels, and is widely used for springs, cutting tools, wire and high-strength parts.
Q2. What is the difference between high, medium and low carbon steel coil?
Low carbon steel (below 0.25%) offers the best formability and weldability. Medium carbon steel (0.25%–0.60%) provides balanced strength and toughness for structural parts. High carbon steel (0.60%–1.00%) delivers maximum hardness and wear resistance but is harder to form and weld, and is usually supplied annealed or heat treated.
Q3. What grades and standards do you supply?
We supply grades including 65Mn, 70#, 80#, SK5, SK7, SAE1070 and SAE1080, manufactured according to GB/T 699, ASTM A684/A682, EN 10132 and JIS G4801 standards. Equivalent grades can be supplied upon request.
Q4. Can high carbon steel coil be formed or stamped?
Yes, when supplied in the spheroidized annealed condition, high carbon steel coil is soft enough for stamping, blanking, bending and deep drawing. The formed parts can then be hardened by quenching and tempering to achieve the required final properties.
Q5. What is your MOQ and delivery time?
Our MOQ is one 20' container (about 25 tons), and trial orders are accepted for samples. Standard production lead time is 7–15 days after deposit, depending on specification and quantity. We ship from Tianjin Port, China, and can arrange FOB, CIF, CFR and DDP terms.
Q6. Can you provide customized sizes and processing?
Yes. We offer slitting, cut-to-length, edge trimming, pickling & oiling, spheroidized annealing and custom packaging. You can specify thickness, width, inner diameter and coil weight according to your production needs.
Q7. Do you provide quality certificates?
Every order includes a Mill Test Certificate covering chemical composition and mechanical properties. Third-party inspection such as SGS, BV and TUV is available upon request.
